I am thinking about purchasing a Funspinner by Gold Medal Products.
I know a lot of you have one, from a previous post.
From the item description on the website, it looks like it comes ready to do the paper cards right out of the box.
How hard is it to do the frisbee's? What extra attachment do I need to buy?
I also see they sell a paper label to go on the Frisbee. Is that nessesary?
thanks

I just received mine and in order to do the frisbees, all you need is the frisbee bracket/mount. It is like 16 dollars extra. I just bought the frisbees and not the stickers for them. I will see how it works next weekend, that is my first rental for it.

I am thinking about purchasing spin art also, I have read some good things from other people and I hear it is a real hit with the children, I may order mine in the morning.

To change from cards to frisbees requires loosening a set screw with an allen wrench and putting another bracket in the machine. It takes less than a minute. To help with clean up, I made bottom liners out of posterboard.
I use the stickers on the frisbees. When paint gets on the plastic that is not covered by the sticker, it seems to rub off quite easily. This is not a big problem because it is just on the edges. Go to Michaels or A.C. Moore to buy your paint, it is much cheaper.
The last few times I've ordered stickers, there was a lot more than 100 on the roll. Has anyone else noticed that?

Just got my 2003 wood model with two motors and folding legs from SpinartUSA yesterday. I am VERY happy with it. That said... since my friends and I are fairly decent with woodworking, we'll be building them ourselves going forward.

I just ordered my spin art today from concessionstands.com, they had 100 5x7 cards for $12.49 and frames for $36.37 for 200. I hope it is ok to put their name in the forum, if not I apologize.

I have a quesion for those that already have a Fun Spinner or Spin Art.
What is the best way to use it? Should they put the paint on before it is spinning or drip the paint through the lid while it is spinning? Or does it just not matter?
Thanks for any insight on this.

Let the kids decide. You get a completely different effect if it's not spinning as opposed to it spinning. Some kids like to do a little of both ways.
I buy my frames from Jarco but I get the cards from a local print shop. The cost was just under .02 per card.

I charge $35 to rent the machine, or $20 with an inflatable rental. Frisbees are $2 a piece and the cards with frames are $.50 a piece. We supply 6 colors of paint included in those prices.

This is our machine. We purchased it from www.SpinArtUSA.com. We rent it for $75 for the day. The rental includes 10 Frisbees and 8 bottles of paint. The paint goes a LONG way. Each bottle will do about 300 Frisbees. So... paint is not a gigantic expense for us. Frisbees are also purchased through SpinArtUSA.com. Their cost is $0.60 per Frisbee. We are finding that Spin Art is a HUGE hit... and no one sneezes at our price.

New Question on the Fun Spinner
Anybody have the battery operated one?
How long does the battery last?
I know there are a few places I could rent this to if it was battery operated. I was just wondering what the hassle is with length of battery life.
Thanks

I've seen conversion kits, actually its called an inverter, and they use the deep cycle marine type batteries. tantamount to a trolling motor. Not sure how long it lasts, maybe a couple hours tops? Michelle, go to Detroit Popcorn, they have all of this stuff on display. Its great. Not the best prices though, but gives you plenty of ideas.

Let me ask this and see if someone will reply
Has anyone who bought the machines that do not shut off as the lid opens modified theirs to do so? I know there are ones that have a brake but do not shut off when the lid is opened. I want to know if you have modified it or just haven't been concerned with that feature. I like the one through Spin Art USA but I noticed it is not an automatic shut off.
Just looking for your thoughts

I'm new to this forum. I build my spin art machine last year with a kill switch if the lid is opened and a use plastic type fence to limit a child access of touching the media being used, as the unit is spinning. To me it would be unwise not to have this feature for safety. As of last week spinart usa was selling the 3 speed motors with holder for media you choose. If you are going the be changing media get the multi speed motors. 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 cards need to spin faster than the plastic freezeebees. As for paint, I use exterior latex satin finish house paint. I have no problems with it on both media types. I used mine a fairs and rent it out.

Welcome Joe! :bye:
Glad to have you here!
I'm with you- I wouldn't have one that didn't cut off when opened- kids loooooove to touch. The Gold Medal version cuts off when you open the plexiglass lid.
I never thought of trying house paint... do you have them make up custom colors for you? The gloss paint might make cool pictures... does it take long to dry?

The gloss paint takes longer to dry. I don't want to store the spin art in the booth due to lack of room. With the satin finish parents will know the paint is dry. During the summer I tell parents about 15 minutes (I use the philosophy of under promise over deliver)
As for the colors, I stay with: red, black, blue, pink, green, white, purple. I have not tried custom colors. I buy the paint by the gallon so it does last a while. On the frisbee's Have good luck using pink, black and glow in the dark you can charge and extra buck or so for glow in the dark (does cost more to buy). At shows I always put up samples of art work.
You can also get spark flakes to put on top of wet paint and get an extra .50 cents.

Are you building just for rentals or to do events yourself? What are you going to use as a media? Call spin art usa I found them helpful just tell them you are building your own unit. If you are going to offer different media buy the 3 speed motor. Only hook up the needed speed for the media being used. Just mark each power lead for the media, just makes life a little easier.
For rentals build table top units. because they are just easier to move around. If you are doing both build a unit on wheels about 20" high for the younger kids. Also make storage inside this unit do plan it out. I have two units one for 5 x 7 card single bay & one double bay for frisbees for shows. I do take both at times if the show has school kids or summer program kids bring all the different media you offer. sometime a kids only has 2 bucks and wants one sell the 5 x 7 card. they'll be happy.
Sorry I got off the subject a little, just thought you need to know.
Goto Radio shack or Home Depot in the electric dept. and a momentary switch to be used as a kill switch & pick up a six foot cord and a metal electrical box (all connection must be in a electrical box. Less problems from inspectors)
Goto Wal Mart and buy the ketchup & mustard containers.

On containers, go to Michael's craft store and buy the clear sqeeze bottles designed for making chocolate candy. They are made by Wilton and fit perfectly in the paint holders on the Funspinner.

Thanks!
