This might be more for the folks who do tents than inflatables, but since here in NC we have to use some big stakes and the ground in certain places is like cement we have decided to buy a breaker hammer with a tool that drives tent stakes. 2 weeks ago we actually bent 8 of our 30 and 40 inch stakes because the ground was so hard.

Needless to say I have already ordered a gas powered stake puller from Celina Tents. Its not something I will use on every set up, just the ones with multiple inflatables. I dont mind swinging my 16 lb sledgehammer, but this particular day was just about the hardest ground I have ever driven stakes into and I figured it was time to make things a little easier on this old boy.

I have found a couple of different breaker hammers and think the bottom one on the weblink is the way to go. The other is just to big and heavy for my use, but I do want to consider it, because we just might start offering tents, tables and chairs. If you guys know of a better one or is this unit gonna do the job? You opinions and experience in this area is greatly

I've had to pound some stakes into some very hard ground. Two years ago I pounded 15 48" stakes into the ground and needed a fork lift to get a few of them out. I'm always the one stuck pounding them in because I can hit hard and hit the head of the stake.

I'm too cheap to invest in something that would pound them in. In many years I've only had a problem once so I'm cool.

I would just say hire someone big and can really hit hard. Some of my guys can't hit a stake in the hard ground to save their life.

I'm like you, I am the big guy, and when it gets to where you are bending stakes its time to invest in something that will make the job easier and save the wear and tear on my body. The small stake driver and the bit are only $1150 with shipping, and I found the other bigger one for $1350 including shipping, but the big one weighs about 80 lbs and the smaller one about 40 lbs. With tents probably in my future, it will be well worth the investment.

If your going gas, go Wacker for driver. I just picked up there latest model and it is great.

I have the gas stake puller, and today for the second time the chain has snapped. I'm unsure if its the way to go, or this is not going to work for me.

Dewalt makes a large driver. Pioneer carries the attachments. Generally I'm using the double headed type that CEC puts out.

I was going electric, because the type of events I would use it at, I usually have a generator or can carry one.

How long have you had the stake puller?

You can snap the chain inside easy. They said to knock the stakes with a sledge, and twist with pipe wrench before pulling out.

You might consider the manual puller from Pioneer, it has never failed me yet.

Did you tell them that dont make sense. I dont want to buy a stake puller, just to have to pull out my sledge and a pipe wrench to get the job started.

Celina has a 30% restocking fee for returns, which if the thing doesnt do the job maybe I show just cancel the order.

Were you pulling the stakes out of asphalt or ground when the chain snapped?

Its made by Swampy Hollow, and yes pulling out of asphalt. I have to get the chain fixed again, I just got it back from repair one.

It's just to easy to snap the chains pulling from asphalt. How will your employees remember that? Have you looked at the Green Monster stake puller? I think Tentwares distributes that one.

I did look at the manual puller from Pioneer, but thought oh well, make it easy as possible. I have never used a manual stake puller. I should have tried Roy's before I made the decision. I will be pulling the stakes from just ground, so maybe it will hold up ok. I will check out the other. I meant to call Celina today and see if I could cancel the order, but I forgot. The sales rep hasnt send me any tracking info on it so maybe they havent shipped it yet. If I can cancel it before they ship it, maybe they wont charge me the restocking fee.

I don't feel I stake enough to buy a machine. Not only that but when I stake I do it on a angle and I think the machine pounds straight in the ground. If you do many tents then its a good idea but in the inflatable world I'll pound them in. I've seen the big tent people use them and from I've seen its perfect for tents. I don't own any tents. I just stake inflatables.

I did send back the gas powered stake puller. I ordered 2 Pioneer Stake Pullers and when they came today. I promptly went out drove some stakes in the ground and tried it out. I will give all the Kudos to Airmike!!! Should have bought these years ago. Best $400 I have spent. I'm glad I listened to him and gave them a try. It was amazing how easy the stakes came out. If you use bigger stakes for your inflatables, I would seriously recommend getting one. Not very heavy and lots better than beating stakes with a sledge.

Update, I called today to Swampy, and they said I could send it back for repair. Which is really fair. They said the chain has been updated and the chain maker said there were some issues. There standing up for there product, which is really great and stand up. I salute them for that. Thank You

I refused the stake puller from them and it has been 3 weeks and they havent credited my card. The CC company said they have 30 days to do so, after that I can dispute it. I have email them, but they arent responding to my emails.

You got it from a distributor I thought and not swampy?

Yeh, Celina, it was the same price. I 'm wondering how you can have restocking fees when you arent the one doing the restocking. It will work out. I have to wait til the 18th to dispute it, if they dont take care of it between now and then I will do so.

Well my stake pullers are still working great. Got the Bosch hammer Breaker (smaller blue one) and it works ok, but the manual says it takes about 3-5 hours of use to really break it in. Of course we have had plenty of rain since and its not really needed now. But i'm sure we will need it next yr when the ground gets hard again.

We have the Bosch also, but the larger unit, yellow one and love it

I picked up Wackers latest and greatest gas driver this year and it is working GREAT! Electrical cords are just another thing to slow down the work flow. Time in motion-the gas driver reduces manpower.

I also use Wackers towable generators and they are fantastic. Aside from oil and air filter changes at suggested intervals no extra costs. I also like the service minder feature that shows onboard screen when service is due.
