Turned Down A Water Unit Rental 6 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
I've turned down probably 4-5 water unit rentals so far this month (April) & just got off the phone with another customer who wanted to rent this weekend.

We've not had really "hot" days so far this year & I tell my customers that my water units will be ready to start going out when the temps are in the upper 80s & lower 90s for at least a week. Today's high is going to be about 65, rain possible tomorrow with highs in the 50s & Saturday is forcasted to be 83, cloudy & windy.

I don't want to even think about drying these units until I have reasonably hot sunny days. And more important to me is that I don't want a customer upset that the kids wouldn't stay in the unit because it's too cold - even though they insisted on the water unit.

Why can't people understand that 60s, 70s & low 80s really isn't water unit weather?? Or am I being unreasonable in not sending out requested units????

Don't know what everyone else around me is doing - but one friend did send her monster water slide out a couple of weeks ago for a college age party at an apartment complex. She said that the college kids were running around in next to nothing & it was 70s-80s that day - can we say no brain, no pain!!

What do you all think?

I have a water slide for tommorrow that I am about to call and try to convince to go to a dry slide and spacewalk. I don't want to deal with a cold wet slide with the temp fluctuations we have had lately. We will see. This is to some college kids but I still don't like it!

LOL- it reminds me of a time we went to the beach in March, just to enjoy the view.

My 5 year-old nephew insisted on putting on his swimsuit and playing in the surf... his parents let him, thinking he'd get a little wet then understand that it was too cold.

45 minutes later, they carried his little blue-tinged body back to the hotel room, kicking and screaming because he wanted to keep swimming!

Kids just ignore that it's cold...

That's too funny!! We've done the same when we've gone to my sister-in-laws & visited the beach.

But yet another call for this Saturday for a water unit. I'm wondering about these parents. Why would you want to pay $$ for a water unit when the weather's not that warm & you could book something dry that the kids would enjoy a lot more. Shoot, we still need jackets - if not coats - as the sun starts going down at night!

We have a pool in the backyard & we probably won't be ready to open it until mid to late May - the water just doesn't warm up that well when our nighttime temps are in the 30s & 40s. Our kids know better than to ask if they can swim if the water in the pool is 60-70s!!

I did explain to this last customer that besides not being warm enough - it would take forever to dry out the slide & if it's not dry it will grow yucky stuff that I don't want.

We use to go down a river in Florida called the Ichetucknee (sp?) when we were kids with the parents. The water temp stayed in low 60's the whole 2 - 3 hour trip. We use to have an inner tube just to tie our dive bag onto and we would snorkel most of the way looking for money and jewlery that other people dropped. We usually made $50 - $100 on a trip down. We were always blue the last 30 minutes and would have to climb up on the tube for the little bit of sun we could find. One year, we actually went swimming on Christmas day even though the water temp was in the high 40's in our pool. I think we stayed in for all of 5 mins! KIDS DON"T CARE!! That's why we have to educate the parents.

We just got back from camping near Santa Cruz. The weather was in the low 70's, but the ocean is COLD.

My 4 year old got soaked playing in the surf ( I didn't pack the swimsuit, as I thought it would be too cold), so I took off his wet clothes and let him run around in his underwear squeeling at the top of his lungs with the look of utter joy. He never complained once.

There's just something about the combination of water and kids.
...
As far as business, I wouldn't do it if it was too much work for the money. I think telling them that your water units don't open up for rent till a certain date would work pretty well OR if they press you further, blame it on your insurance company...

Sunday here in Katy, TX was a nice day I was going to set up my slide for the kids (wet) but decided to go to a movie instead. I know what you mean about drying them I can see how it would take longer. Makes you wonder what the rest of the nation does being as not everyone is in Texas or Florida.

Heidi, you should change the name of it to the polar plunge water slide and rent it out. Kids will really slide on those solid sheets of ice. LOL

Ours is going out on Thursday and the temps are supposed to be in the 60,s.

My sister has some swimming pools kansas city area. She says her teenagers begged her all winter to go swimming. The temp stayed around the low 30's all winter. She told them if they got in the pool they will end up severely sick.
